The Arise and Rebuild revival in Mbabane was our second visit to Swaziland. The plan was that I would spend two evenings ministering at the revival services. Bishop Charles Shongwe was supposed to take the afternoon sessions and close out the revival. Although I was physically tired from a previous ministry engagement, we saw God move powerfully among the people. Hundreds came to Christ and hundreds more were healed. After seeing the blessing of God and the response of the people, Bishop Shongwe insisted that we might stay another couple of days. We agreed.
On Wednesday afternoon we paid a visit to the governor of the area, HRH Princess Myingili, sister to King Mswati III. As we greeted the princess, herself a born-again Christian, she said to us, “You are shaking the hand of kings.” I looked at the royal lineage represented in this woman, the strength, courage and dignity that was so apparent.
We spoke about the needs of the people of Swaziland and expressed our desire to work with her to bring Christ-centered solutions. Swaziland is considered a Christian nation but the majority of those who call themselves Christian are practicing a blend of Christianity and traditional religion. The crime rate is low but Swaziland has one of the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world. Schooling is mandatory but not free and even as we left, the local newspaper was reporting that many primary aged students were being refused entrance until back fees were paid. She asked if I would stay on until the close of the revival on Sunday. We agreed. When we return, the princess said that she would arrange an audience with the king.
Later that same day we did an interview on Swaziland’s Channel S television that was broadcast during the evening news and afterward I had the privilege of praying for some of the staff of the station.
Saturday night the church held an all-night prayer meeting and there was a profound expectation for what God would do on Sunday morning. Although the temperature in the tent topped 120 degrees we persevered. I preached a message titled “120.” One hundred and twenty people believed the words of Jesus and followed his instruction to wait in Jerusalem until they received the promise of the Father. One hundred and twenty dedicated themselves to prayer, expecting. One hundred and twenty received the promised power of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. These one hundred and twenty blood-bought, Spirit filled believers changed the world. Hundreds of people came forward and received that same Pentecostal experience.
